1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
4 squares of unsweetened chocolate
*Powdered sugar (if desired, to sprinkle on top)
1 2/3 sticks margarine or butter
*Chocolate frosting (if desired)
2 cups granulated sugar
*Chopped Nuts (to sprinkle on top, if desired)
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp Clabber Girl Baking Powder
1 tsp salt
Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch pan; set aside. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or gently melt in the microwave for about 2 minutes. When the squares are nearly melted, add the margarine or butter and heat for another minute. Stir until chocolate is smooth; set aside to cool a minute. In another bowl, stir together flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder and salt; set aside. To the chocolate mixture, alternately add sugar and eggs: add 1 cup sugar, stir; add 2 eggs, stir; repeat with remaining sugar and eggs. Add flour mixture to the chocolate batter. Add nuts, if desired. Stir only until all is mixed. Do not overbeat. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake at 350 F for 20 to 25 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack. When brownies have cooled, top with your choice of toppings: Sprinkle with powdered sugar, ice with chocolate frosting and top with chopped nuts, if desired.
