This classic Irish soda bread is perfect for making a quick and sweet bread anytime during the year, but especially during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. You can omit the raisins if desired.

Ingredients

1 tbsp caraway seeds
2 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups buttermilk
1 tbsp Clabber Girl Baking Powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp Clabber Girl Baking Soda
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 cups raisins, rinsed in hot water and dried

Directions

Sift together flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder, salt, soda and brown sugar. Mix in raisins until they are thoroughly coated. Stir in caraway seeds; add eggs and buttermilk and stir until thoroughly combined. Knead on floured board 10 or 12 strokes; roll or pat out to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with round 2-inch biscuit cutter and place on baking sheets. Bake in preheated 400 F. oven for 15-20 minutes. Cool on wire racks when done.
